I know you're anxious to play, but there's a few little things we should go over first.
Click Next to Begin, or X to get rid of me.
Next >> Next >> Next >>The Menu
That's the red thing at the bottom with all the little pictures on it.
The ones you should focus on are the funny looking wizards.
You want to hire some.
Click on the red mage now.
Great Work!
You've just learnt how to hire!
Now you have a red guy on your mouse cursor, place him down on one of the empty paved tiles. I'd suggest near the arrow pointing in.
Excellent!
Now we're cooking!
You're going to want a couple more. Place some more of your own choice, then press the Initiate Wave button at the far right.
Uh oh! RATS!
This is the first wave of monsters.
They're weak and easy to kill, but they won't all be like that!
Try clicking one to see their stats.
This looks complicated!
Don't worry, It's not really.
You can see here what you will face on the next wave along with their strength, weakness, any specials and the reward you'll be getting for each one you kill.
Have a look then press proceed.
Not to worry.
The wave won't arrive until you press the initiate button again.
Before we do that however, one of your little guys is glowing.
This means he's earnt enough experience to level up!
Click on him now.
This is your guy's stats.
Every defender has basic stats.
Power, Range and Speed.
I'm betting you can figure those out yourself.
Let's just carry on and level him up.
Click the Level up Button now.
Oh Dear, more complicatedness.
This bit's easy. Everytime your guys gain a level, you have to pick how to focus their experience.
Specialism, granting or improving special attacks or Generalism, No specials, but better all round strength. The choice is yours!
Well done!
You now have a level 2 defender!
You can repeat this process with anymore waiting to level. Remember though, it costs gold, don't leave yourself short.
Let's kill more rats. When you're ready click initiate wave again.
Die Vermin!
Oh hey, these rats are "FAST" - this means they move much quicker than regular monsters. It's a special ability you should watch out for. In this case however they're even weaker than before!
Another Wave Down!
You're a regular ratslayer!
Let's look a bit closer at this wave, it has another special. To learn about all these specials check the information section from the main menu. For now, let's carry on.
Click Proceed to continue.
One last feature to consider
You might have noticed some tiles can't be placed on, in most cases these tiles can be paved. Try it now, simply click on one of them to open the paving window. It's pretty simple and essential on some maps.
Yes or No?
It's your choice!
Paving tiles will allow you to place defenders in those locations. But it costs gold that you might prefer to spend on new defenders or levelling up your best ones.
See ya!
You've learnt all you need to finish this map. If something is still confusing to you be sure to check the protectopedia section from the main menu, it contains a wealth of descriptions and advice.

The largest portion of your score is calculated based on the amount of gold you have between each wave, not spending it all will result in a much higher overall score. Splash damage can never kill a monster, it has to be directly targetted, take this into consideration when creating your builds. Pair up splash with a fast hitter like an archer. Special attacks stack. A monster can be affected by all specials at once.Think about this when creating a debuff section. The strategy required for each map is different. You can't just use what you did last time and expect to win. Generalizing a defender to a high level will result in a natural increase in range. This range bonus stacks with the skill Ultimate Mastery. Paving may not seem important, but it is essential on some maps. Advanced Defenders may seem expensive, but they have higher base stats which improve every level. They also start with special attack knowledge right away. Marathon levels are designed to take a long time and be a test of your tactical skill.Plan Accordingly! Each map is manually scripted to provide a challenge and can always be completed if you use the correct tactics and builds, it's simply not always the obvious solution. Protector is quite an intensive game. If you experience slowdown or lag, consider lowering your quality settings via buttons on the menu bar. Did you know you can hold down Shift while hiring defenders to place mutliple? If you hit an enemy with an element he is weak against it does 150% damage!Conversely, hitting one with a strong element does only 50% damage, watch out! Necrosis is the most powerful attack there is, but it takes clever strategy to fully utilize. The more kills the character obtains the stronger he becomes. Information is power. Be sure to check the Information section from the main menu.It contains everything you need to know about the game. Get to know the monster special abilities, they can totally negate your defenses in certain situations. Did you know you can use the arrow keys to shift the map around? It's useful for the biggest ones. Check the range overlay when placing ranged units. Remember the more road tiles it covers the more effective the unit will be once placed. Learn the advanced units, they are each amazingly powerful if placed in the right location and against the correct enemy type. Purple mages can turn any unit's attack into a far more powerful one, place them tactically. Rather than building a defense from the start of a level, begining at the end can give you a good sense of how the enemies will move and ensure back units get experience.
